Mary & Donald

Mary and Donald were married last month at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mount Washington, KY. Without knowing beforehand that the church was undergoing a massive renovation into a much larger new building. The entire site was a construction site. While there were minimal places to photograph portraits, we made do with what we had.

During the ceremony...as everything was quiet, I went to kneel down to get a more interesting angle, and completely split the crotch out of my pants! I continued to photograph the important moments of this traditional Catholic mass, and then during the homily, (while my assistant was photographing) I was able to step into the back of the church and safety pin my pants back together. I had to think on my toes...I was in no position to get another pair of pants.

We ended up getting incredible images once we got to their reception site: Louisville Professional Firefighter's Local 345. It's amazing what you can do with amazing lenses and limited depth of field and an area that is smaller than a room (with just a couple trees). It was beautiful!

In all of my years of photographing weddings, I've had just about everything go wrong that could possibly go wrong. Splitting my pants was always one of those things I knew could happen...I just thought I would be prepared (or it wouldn't be soooo bad). Let's just say...I've learned another lesson and will always have a backup pair of pants. Just in case.

Mary and Donald knew nothing about it at the time (even though it was ridiculously loud) and I continued doing what needed to be done. They got a great laugh when I told them immediately after the ceremony what I just went through. They were truly a blast to spend their special day with. Congratulations to the two of them!
